Saudi Arabian state-owned outlet Al Hadath reports on stalemate in US-Iran mediation efforts
According to a report by Al Hadath on Wednesday, mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran have reached a stalemate. US officials are insisting that there will be no progress in negotiations until advancements are made on the nuclear file. Additionally, they have stated that Hormuz is no longer a priority for the US after Iran lost control of it.
Despite these statements, there have been numerous Iranian drone attacks on foreign vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz in the past eight days.
President Masoud Pezeshkian has urged the Iranian public to stand up against the US and the West in light of sweeping sanctions and naval blockade actions. He emphasized the importance of enduring hardships to resist Western pressures.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian announced plans to reduce energy consumption in various sectors to ensure the production cycle is not disrupted. He also mentioned the possibility of closing cultural and sport complexes to allocate energy resources for industrial production.
Iran’s economy has been severely impacted by the US blockade, leading to a significant decrease in the value of the rial. The economic fallout has also affected neighboring Iraq.
Despite the challenges, Pezeshkian expressed Iran’s readiness to negotiate a fair agreement that promotes peace and security in the region.
Iranian media reported a 60 percent decrease in oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz, attributing it to the impact of sanctions. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) adviser stated that Iran fully controls the strait and will keep it closed until its demands are met.
Iran’s admission of economic hardship amid sanctions indicates the severity of the situation. The ongoing narrative surrounding Hormuz and market dynamics is subject to differing perspectives, with Western media favoring certain narratives.
The stalemate in US-Iran relations is expected to persist beyond the November midterm elections, with President Trump hinting at a potential military campaign against Iran by the end of November.
