AgriDex executes first on-chain farmland deal on Solana network

AgriDex just announced the completion of the first on-chain farmland transaction on the Solana network. The transaction, a $165,000 land purchase in Zambia, was settled instantly at no cost through AgriDex’s digital settlement system. AgriDex, a platform built on Solana (SOL), focuses on real-world assets within the global agricultural industry.

The payment was sent from a buyer to Sustainable Agricultural Development in Mauritius, showcasing how blockchain technology can streamline cross-border transactions, making large deals more cost-effective and efficient.

Traditional bank transfers can take several business days to process, along with high fees. By leveraging Solana’s fast processing and low-cost infrastructure, AgriDex offers a new model for facilitating agricultural trade.

Henry Duckworth, the co-founder and CEO of AgriDex, stated, “For the first time, a farmland contract has been traded and settled on the blockchain. This marks a significant milestone in improving the exchange and financing of agricultural real estate.”

A $2.7 trillion industry

AgriDex is gearing up to handle an additional $2.6 million in farmland transactions in the upcoming weeks. The company asserts that its platform helps partners collectively save over $40 million annually in transaction-related costs, which can then be reinvested in operations and expansion.

This recent transaction adds to AgriDex’s history of deals involving various commodities such as olive oil, wine, coffee, and livestock. The platform aims to address the inefficiencies plaguing the $2.7 trillion agriculture sector, including slow settlements, high fees, and complex banking procedures.

By eliminating intermediaries and offering quicker access to funds, AgriDex argues that blockchain technology could play a pivotal role in enhancing how agricultural enterprises conduct business across borders.
