Travelers flying out of Newark, New Jersey, will have to wait a little longer for a Centurion Lounge. American Express announced on Oct. 8, 2026, that the new lounge is now expected to open in 2027 — making it the largest-ever lounge in the American Express network.
AmEx also revealed plans to expand its lounge operations in London, Houston, and Philadelphia over the next two years. This news comes as airport lounges, especially AmEx’s popular Centurion Lounges, face overcrowding challenges. These lounges are accessible to anyone with an eligible AmEx card. Here’s what you need to know.
AmEx’s Newark location is set to open in 2027 in Terminal A, where most domestic airlines and Air Canada operate. The lounge will be the largest-ever AmEx Centurion Lounge, covering more than 30,000 square feet, significantly larger than the original plan of 17,000 square feet.
Guests at the two-story EWR lounge will have access to a Blue Roast by American Express grab-and-go coffee bar and three different bar experiences: a main bar, a specialty bar, and a terrace bar.
The terrace bar, inspired by New Jersey’s Pine Barrens forest, will offer gelato, pastries, and cocktails, paying homage to the state’s Italian heritage.
Newark is a major hub for United Airlines, which operates several lounges at the airport. Delta Air Lines and American Airlines also have their own lounges in Terminal A.
