Armed Terrorists Attack Iranian Consulate In Syria, Tehran Says

On Saturday, as a new jihadist assault was unfolding in Aleppo, the Iranian government announced that “some terrorist elements” had attacked the Iranian consulate in the northern Syrian city. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei strongly condemned the attack by “some armed terrorist elements” and assured that all consulate staff members were safe.

The Iranian government plans to provide a serious response to the attack, both legally and internationally. Iran has labeled the new offensive out of Al-Qaeda held Idlib as an “American-Zionist” plot, noting the history of proxy war in Syria involving Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the US, Turkey, and some European countries.

The Syrian conflict has pitted the Shia axis against hardline Sunnis supported by extremist Gulf clerics with Western backing. The radical group Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS), an offshoot of Al-Qaeda, has launched a surprise assault on Aleppo, reaching the city center.

Moscow has criticized the attack on Syria’s sovereignty and called for the Assad government to restore order. Russian aircraft have been supporting the Syrian Army’s efforts, but insurgents now control key neighborhoods in Aleppo.

The Syrian Army, weakened by years of war and sanctions, is struggling to combat the HTS jihadists. The group is now threatening other parts of Syria, potentially targeting the city of Hama next. The conflict has intensified in northern and central Syria.

Syria🇸🇾 is once again revisiting its darkest days, when NATO-backed Al Qaeda and ISIS took over Syria’s cities, imposing their barbaric rule over civilians.
