An $XRP Ledger validator has warned users to exercise extreme caution when dealing with tokenized stocks and yield-generating products on the network.
XRPL validator Vet, also known as Hussain Zangana, emphasized that users should not automatically assume that tokenized assets are safe just because they are issued on the $XRP Ledger. He highlighted that the ability to issue a token does not inherently make it trustworthy or credible.
“Anyone can issue a token; that alone does not guarantee credibility,” Vet stated. Therefore, he urged users to conduct thorough research before making any investments.
Tokenized Stocks Require More Than an XRPL Issuance
Vet’s warning comes at a time when tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) are expanding on the $XRP Ledger. Earlier this year, former Ripple CTO David Schwartz predicted that enterprises would increasingly utilize XRPL for tokenizing stocks, securities, money market funds, and loans.
These comments underscored the potential for the ledger to serve as infrastructure for on-chain financial ecosystems.
Asheesh Birla, CEO of Evernorth, also suggested that the $XRP Ledger’s role in tokenization should go beyond asset holding. He envisioned tokenized assets being utilized for lending, collateralization, rebalancing, and other financial applications.
However, Vet pointed out that the availability of tokenized financial products necessitates increased scrutiny.
He recommended that users investigate the entity issuing the token, including its reputation, jurisdiction, and custodians. Investors should verify the existence of underlying assets and ensure that the tokens genuinely represent the equities they claim to track.
Vet Questions $XRP Yield Promises
Vet extended his warning to yield products promising returns on $XRP. He advised users against blindly sending $XRP to projects solely based on attractive yields, cautioning that promises of potential returns can be made by anyone.
Users should investigate the source of the yield and verify the deployment of first-loss capital. They should also understand deposit and withdrawal rules before committing funds.
Vet encouraged users to approach such projects with skepticism and stated that legitimate operators should be willing to provide evidence to substantiate their claims.
XRPL’s Growth Means Users Should Be Cautious
The use of real-world assets (RWAs) on XRPL has rapidly expanded this year, alongside increased usage of Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin. This has raised hopes of XRPL becoming a prominent platform for tokenized stocks and other financial products.
However, as the sector grows, users may encounter more projects and companies with varying levels of transparency and reliability. Vet advised users to avoid investing significant sums in these products, especially funds they cannot afford to lose. If users choose to invest after thorough research, he recommended starting with a small amount.
“If you are unsure, it is best to refrain,” Vet emphasized, highlighting the importance of safeguarding your funds over chasing high returns.
