Bezos-Backed Startup Debuts Pickup Truck Reminiscent Of 1980s Toyota Hilux

A new electric truck backed by Jeff Bezos was recently unveiled, offering a budget-friendly option that is significantly cheaper than the average American pickup. However, this affordable option comes with a catch – it lacks power windows, infotainment screens, and self-driving features.

Slate Auto, the company behind the truck, described it as “radically simple and radically affordable.” The Slate truck is customizable and can transform into different configurations, including an SUV. Made in the USA, this electric vehicle is priced at a level that is truly within reach for many consumers.

Despite its practicality and affordability, the Slate truck falls short in terms of range, offering only 150 miles on a single charge. A longer-range battery pack option extends this to 240 miles, but it still pales in comparison to other electric trucks on the market. For heavy-duty tasks like towing and hauling, more robust options like the Tesla Cybertruck or Rivian truck, or traditional diesel-powered trucks from Dodge, Ford, or Chevy, are recommended.

While the Slate truck may not be suitable for serious work, it presents a fun and stylish option for everyday use in urban areas. Its compact size and versatility make it ideal for running errands around town.

Overall, the Slate truck offers a unique blend of simplicity, affordability, and practicality, catering to a specific niche of consumers looking for a budget-friendly electric vehicle option.
