New cardholders who have recently been approved for the Chase Freedom Unlimited® can now enjoy a bonus that offers instant gratification without the need for significant spending.

Effective March 20, 2025, the Chase Freedom Unlimited® is enticing new cardholders with the following bonus: Limited Time Intro Offer: Earn a $250 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.

BW rating

BW’s ratings are determined by our editorial team. The scoring formula incorporates coverage options, customer experience, customizability, cost and more.

How this bonus differs from what was available before:

  • This bonus is larger than the previous offer found on Chase’s website. Previously, applicants could earn $200 after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

  • It requires less spending compared to the previous offer available on BW and other platforms. The previous offer provided an additional 1.5% cash back on all purchases in the first year, up to $20,000 in spending, potentially totaling $300 if fully utilized.

While the new bonus is $50 less than the maximum of $300 achievable with the extra 1.5% offer, it eliminates the need to wait a whole year to earn the bonus and requires significantly less spending. With just $500 in spending, you can receive the $250 bonus, as opposed to the $16,667 spending requirement to earn $250 with an extra 1.5%. Additionally, compared to the previous Chase offer, it offers $50 more for the same spending amount.

Regardless, for a card with no annual fee, this bonus presents a great opportunity to offset costs or increase flexibility in your budget.

The card also continues to provide 5% back on travel booked through Chase, 3% back at restaurants (including takeout and eligible delivery services), 3% back on drugstore purchases, and 1.5% cash back on all other purchases. In addition to the sign-up bonus, it offers an introductory APR deal: Enjoy a 0% intro APR on purchases and Balance Transfers for 15 months, followed by an ongoing APR of 18.99%-28.49% Variable APR.
