Two Democratic State Representatives in Ohio have proposed legislation that would impose fines on men for ejaculating if they do not intend to conceive a baby. The bill, known as the ‘Conception Begins at Erection Act,’ was introduced by State reps Anita Somani and Tristan Rade. Under the proposed law, men engaging in unprotected sex without the intent of impregnation would face felony charges, with fines of $1,000 for the first offense, $5,000 for the second offense, and $10,000 for subsequent offenses.
While the lawmakers acknowledge that the bill may seem absurd, they emphasize that its purpose is to highlight the hypocrisy of laws regulating women’s bodies. Exception to the law would include individuals in the LGBTQ community, as well as cases of sperm donation and masturbation.
Critics have dismissed the legislation as a publicity stunt to promote abortion-on-demand. Some have questioned the seriousness of the Democrats behind such proposals, suggesting that there are more pressing issues to address in Ohio. This move has been likened to a previous incident where a Democrat sterilized herself in protest against President Trump’s alleged powers to ban abortions.
It is evident that the Democrats involved in these controversial initiatives are not being taken seriously. Until they address the concerns raised by their constituents and focus on more pertinent matters, they are unlikely to gain support.
