The nominee for FDA Commissioner, Dr. Heidi Overton, assured senators that vaccines available in the United States are safe and effective. She expressed her commitment to using her scientific expertise and clinical experience to inform the public about FDA-regulated products.

“The vaccines approved by the FDA meet the highest standards for safety and efficacy,” Dr. Overton affirmed.

Dr. Overton also endorsed the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine, highlighting its importance in public health efforts to combat ongoing outbreaks. She defended the safety and effectiveness of mifepristone, an FDA-approved abortion pill, despite facing criticism from Senate Democrats.

According to a report by The Epoch Times, Dr. Overton would lead the FDA, which has been without a permanent head since May.

President Trump’s recent executive order advocating for separate measles vaccines sparked controversy. While expressing concerns about the combined vaccine’s safety, Trump’s comments were met with skepticism as the White House failed to provide evidence supporting his claims.

Notably, leaders in the Make America Healthy Again movement have urged the removal of mRNA-containing vaccines.

During confirmation hearings, Sen. Bill Cassidy questioned nominees about Trump’s vaccine-related statements. Responses from health officials, including Dr. Nicole Saphier and Chris Klomp, indicated support for vaccination efforts.
