Marathon, Teamsters reach pay deal at Detroit refinery By Reuters

Teamsters members employed at Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery have approved a seven-year collective bargaining agreement, the company and the union announced on Sunday. This decision comes after a three-month strike that began in September, when over 200 Teamsters at the Detroit refinery walked off the job due to unsuccessful pay and safety negotiations.

“The process of safely welcoming our employees back to the refinery is already underway,” stated the Findlay, Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum.

Following months of discussions and mediations, Marathon representatives and Teamsters reached an agreement with the help of a federal mediator. The previous contract had expired in January of this year.

The Detroit refinery, which has a capacity of 140,000 barrels per day, is one of Marathon’s 13 refineries that collectively have a refining capacity of approximately 2.9 million barrels per day.
