MSC Cruises recently launched the MSC World America, a massive cruise ship that embarked on its maiden voyage from Miami to the Caribbean on April 9, 2025. This new addition to the fleet is one of the largest cruise ships globally, designed to cater to families with various kid-friendly activities like waterslides, ropes courses, and a thrilling ride that swings passengers over the sea.
I had the opportunity to experience the ship firsthand during an exclusive preview sailing, which included media and travel agents. While some parts of the cruise were still under construction, I was able to get a good sense of what passengers can expect from their journey. Although the food quality was average, and service was occasionally slow, the ship’s impressive array of rides and entertainment options make it a great choice for families looking for a fun-filled cruise experience.
The embarkation process at the brand-new PortMiami terminal was a breeze, thanks to its high-tech design. Online check-in via the MSC for Me app made the process even smoother, allowing me to upload my travel documents and receive a boarding pass promptly. The terminal itself is spacious and well-lit, offering a pleasant boarding experience for guests.
The ship’s cabins, while not as flashy as other areas, are well-designed to maximize space. I stayed in a standard balcony room, which featured ample storage space and a private outdoor area. I also had the chance to tour other cabin types, ranging from basic options to luxurious suites like the Grand Suite Aurea, which offers a private hot tub and expansive terrace.
The onboard dining options include 19 restaurants, offering a mix of American comfort foods and international flavors. While the quality of the complimentary food was decent, the specialty restaurants provided a more elevated dining experience. Eataly at Sea, a steakhouse, and Sweet Temptations are among the standout options for those looking for a more refined culinary experience.
Entertainment on the MSC World America is top-notch, with live shows like Queen Symphonic and Dirty Dancing in Concert captivating audiences. The ship also features a variety of activities for guests of all ages, including a Lego play area, water park, ropes course, and exclusive adult-only areas like the Botanic Garden pool.
Overall, the MSC World America offers a diverse range of experiences for guests, with something for everyone to enjoy. While there were some service issues and room for improvement in certain areas, the ship’s impressive amenities and entertainment options make it a compelling choice for a family cruise vacation.
