Paul Allen, the creator of SOAR, previously developed a family social networking app on Facebook that amassed 120 million users.
Project Liberty has emerged as the top contender for acquiring the U.S. assets of TikTok should they become available.
Project Liberty, a decentralized social media platform, has announced a significant partnership with SOAR.com. This collaboration involves integrating SOAR’s AI-powered data sharing and social networking portals created by Ancestry founder and serial entrepreneur Paul Allen.
With the backing of real estate mogul Frank McCourt with a funding of $250 million, Project Liberty aims to establish a publicly accessible database of social connections through a Decentralized Social Networking Protocol (DSNP). The project also incorporates cryptocurrency, specifically Frequency from the Polkadot ecosystem.
The current dominance of social media platforms like Facebook owned by Elon Musk highlights the need for decentralized alternatives to attract new users.
Allen’s SOAR AI studio features a Family Portal, originally built on Facebook with 120 million users, and a Citizens Portal that provides searchable local government data sourced from city, county, and state meetings.
One of the key reasons for Allen’s involvement with Project Liberty is the commitment to ensuring users retain control over their data, a relationship of trust that has been compromised by platforms like Facebook and Ancestry.com.
Project Liberty has seen significant growth with 1.3 million users since the launch of the Frequency blockchain. The addition of SOAR’s Family and Citizens portals is expected to attract millions more users seeking alternatives to existing social media giants.
The Summit on the Future of the Internet hosted by Project Liberty is scheduled to take place in Washington D.C. on Nov. 21-22.
Project Liberty is also a potential bidder for the U.S. version of TikTok, known as the “people’s bid,” in the event that the firm is required to sell to a U.S. owner.
Tillemann, President of Project Liberty, expressed confidence in their position as the leading bidder for TikTok’s U.S. assets and highlighted the collaboration with stakeholders to transition TikTok’s 170 million U.S. users to their infrastructure.
Project Liberty’s mission extends beyond decentralization to ensuring ethical AI practices, offering a new perspective on the evolving digital landscape.
