Tether Enters Saudi Arabia With Real Estate Tokenization

Tether is making strides beyond stablecoins by expanding its tokenization business into Saudi Arabia. The USDT issuer has partnered with local firms to bring institutional real estate assets onchain, marking its first major real-world asset (RWA) project in the Kingdom as the demand for blockchain-based investment products continues to rise.

On August 6, Tether announced a strategic partnership with First Advanced Data for Artificial Intelligence LLC (First Data) and fintech firm BKN301 to launch institutional real estate tokenization in Saudi Arabia. The project will utilize Hadron by Tether, the company’s tokenization platform introduced in 2024, to issue, manage, and track tokenized real estate assets throughout their lifecycle. First Data will serve as the issuer and primary market operator, while BKN301 will integrate Hadron into the country’s banking, payments, and compliance infrastructure.

This venture signifies Tether’s first institutional tokenization project in Saudi Arabia, with potential expansion into other sectors such as energy, infrastructure finance, and additional real-world assets. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino expressed optimism about Saudi Arabia becoming a promising market for blockchain-powered finance.

While Tether is renowned for issuing the largest stablecoin, USDT, the company has been steadily growing its tokenization business. The Hadron platform enables institutions to convert traditional assets into blockchain-based digital tokens with enhanced compliance, security, and asset management tools. Tether also operates XAUT, the world’s largest tokenized gold product, with a market value of approximately $2.6 billion.

The move towards tokenizing real estate in Saudi Arabia aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to modernize financial markets and attract global investment. Tether believes that tokenizing real estate can enhance liquidity in a traditionally illiquid asset class, enabling more investors to participate in property ownership. The model could potentially extend to other sectors like energy and infrastructure in the future.

The partnership between Tether, First Data, and BKN301 creates new opportunities for investors and asset owners in Saudi Arabia. This collaboration reflects the growing trend of banks and asset managers exploring tokenization to digitize various assets, from real estate to equities.

In conclusion, Tether’s foray into institutional real estate tokenization in Saudi Arabia underscores its commitment to diversifying beyond stablecoins and tapping into emerging markets for blockchain-based financial solutions.
