Trump once again finds himself in hot water – shocker! – and as expected, it’s causing a stir online. This time, the iconic face of McDonald’s fries dared to label liberals who oppose him as “the enemy within.” (In other news, the sky is blue, the cancer industry is questionable, and those aren’t just clouds.) Upon hearing this provocative statement, sensitive democratic individuals began melting like snowflakes in a heated debate.
“Donald Trump is implying that his fellow Americans are more of ‘enemies’ than foreign adversaries,”expressed a spokesperson for the Harris campaign. “Until recently, this type of rhetoric was not common in American presidential politics,” The Atlantic observed in an article comparing Trump to historical figures like Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Mao Zedong, and Pol Pot. “CNN Anchor Left Lost for Words By Trump’s Chilling Enemy Within Comments,” a Daily Beast headline declared before taking a moment to compose itself.
Chilling? Sinister? Dangerous? Are these reporters overreacting? “Trump unplugs his grandmother’s CPAP machine to charge his phone” is chilling. “McDONALD found guilty of handing out fentanyl laced fries” is sinister. “Federer calls Nadal a butthead” is not headline material.
I attempted to consult ChatGPT on the validity of Trump’s claims, but the AI seemed unable to provide any insights. On ethical grounds, apparently.
So I posed a different, hypothetical question.
Did you hear the GULP, too?
ChatGPT doesn’t enjoy exposing democrats.
On MSNBC’s Morning Joe show, host Joe Scarborough was visibly shaken by Trump’s harsh words. “I truly don’t know where this leaves us as a nation,” a dramatically solemn Scarborough lamented. “I have never heard a politician label his opponent as ‘the enemy within’ and declare intentions to pursue them.”
Really? Hahahahahahaha. Can someone help Scarborough out from under that rock?
It’s worth noting that Bill Clinton was never indicted for hush money payments made to Paula Jones.
Nancy Pelosi directly referred to Trump as a “domestic enemy” (distinct from ‘the enemy within,’ of course), as well as immoral, unethical, corrupt, unpatriotic hahahahahaha and “stupid.” Hillary Clinton funded an investigation into Trump’s alleged ties to Russia during the 2016 election. (Which didn’t go as planned, by the way.)
Joe Biden, who has described Trump as a dangerous liar, recently stated “we gotta lock him up.” Kamala Harris has labeled him a racist threat to democracy and suggested he belongs in prison.
Elizabeth Warren vowed that if elected, she would investigate Trump for corruption. Jerry Nadler accused Trump of abuse of power and actively sought his removal from office. The Teflon Don has faced impeachment twice, both resulting in acquittals.
It seems that the criteria for being a political talk show host doesn’t include a grasp of political history. Quite fitting.
(Oh, and I omitted the infamous basket of deplorables—a term Hillary later defended and claimed was “too kind” for some of us—as she was technically referring to Trump supporters, not the man himself, and fairness is important to me.)
Scarborough’s mood darkened further when the Wall Street Journal accused his party of being socialist [my words] and refused to partake in liberals’ favorite pastime, Whack-a-MAGA.
“I woke up expecting, because there are times that the Wall Street Journal editorial page checks Mr. Trump at his worst instincts,” the host said despondently, indicating that this was not the case. “Instead, they’re discussing the democrats’ ‘fascism meme’ and asserting that essentially democrats are the true national socialists and that their actions are far more egregious than anything Donald Trump has done. Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness—interrupt me if this sounds familiar—was more unlawful than anything Donald Trump has ever done.”
Spoiler: Scarborough may not recover from this blow.
“Once again, it’s a rare occasion when I am at a loss for words to explain the situation,” the host mourned, “but… I was genuinely taken aback when Donald Trump continued to refer to democrats as ‘the enemy within,’ which could potentially lead to his re-election. Labeling them as enemy combatants and suggesting incarceration and military tribunals. They may brush this off, but they have never encountered this kind of language from a major party candidate before. Can you recall a similar instance?”
Considering that military tribunals are typically reserved for traitors who betray their country or government, many progressives are likely uneasy at the thought of a Trump resurgence. No wonder the somber soliloquy.
Is America’s most dangerous enemy within or without?
