Trump Mulls ‘Indirect’ Talks With Iran As 2nd Carrier Group Dispatched To Mideast

The White House is reportedly giving serious thought to Iran’s proposal for indirect nuclear talks, despite imposing additional sanctions on the Islamic Republic as part of the ‘maximum pressure’ campaign initiated by the Trump administration.

The latest round of sanctions targeted entities in Iran, the UAE, and China involved in procuring unmanned aerial vehicle components for Iran’s UAV program. This move comes amidst White House claims that Iran and the Houthis in Yemen are closely aligned, with ongoing military actions in the region.

In a significant development, a second US aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, has been deployed to the Middle East to join the USS Harry Truman. This deployment, along with additional air assets ordered by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, aims to bolster defensive capabilities in the region.

Simultaneously, diplomatic talks are underway in Paris regarding Iran’s nuclear program, with France warning of a narrow window for reaching a new agreement to avoid potential military conflict. President Trump has issued a stark ultimatum to Iran, demanding compliance with a new deal or facing military consequences.

Iran’s Supreme Leader has responded defiantly, warning of a strong counterattack if provoked. The possibility of preemptive strikes is heightened by recent Pentagon dispatches of B-2 bombers to Diego Garcia, placing them within striking distance of Iran and Yemen.

Amidst escalating tensions, Russia has offered to mediate between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear program. The US administration has shown openness to this proposal, indicating a willingness to engage in diplomatic solutions.
