United Is Bringing Starlink to Its First 737, and It’s Seriously Fast

United Airlines is introducing Starlink Wi-Fi to its Boeing jets, a significant portion of its mainline fleet. The first aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi, a Boeing 737-800, is set to depart on October 15, 2025, from Newark to Houston as flight UA 2940, coinciding with the approximate number of antennas United plans to install across its fleet.

Previously, Starlink was only available on smaller planes in the United Express regional fleet, making this expansion exciting for United’s passengers. The Boeing 737-800 is the first Boeing aircraft type certified by the Federal Aviation Administration for Starlink installation, with more Boeing planes expected to follow suit in the future. Starlink Wi-Fi is complimentary for all United MileagePlus members.

Despite the positive news, the rollout will be gradual as United operates over 1,000 planes in its mainline fleet. Media personnel were invited on a flight from Chicago to Chicago to test Starlink on the inaugural Boeing 737-800 service. Compared to a previous flight in May 2025, the system appeared faster, smoother, and more efficient this time around.

Starlink utilizes low Earth orbit satellites to deliver faster speeds while being lighter than traditional Wi-Fi systems, contributing to improved fuel efficiency. Moreover, the technology is not impacted by weather conditions, providing a reliable in-flight connectivity experience.

To access Starlink on United flights, passengers must have a United MileagePlus account. Gate-to-gate connectivity is supported, allowing passengers to connect to the “unitedwifi.com” network upon boarding. It is recommended to install the United app and log in before the flight for a seamless experience.

The introduction of Starlink aims to enhance the passenger experience on United flights, particularly through the seatback screens. Live data updates, digital content partnerships, and the installation of seatback screens across the fleet demonstrate United’s commitment to improving onboard amenities.

As of June 2025, United plans to equip up to 15 Boeing 737-800 aircraft with Starlink per month. The focus will then shift to other Boeing models before extending the upgrade to widebody planes. The regional fleet has already seen significant progress in Starlink installation, with service expected on nearly 300 regional planes by year-end.

In conclusion, the implementation of Starlink Wi-Fi on United flights marks a significant step towards enhancing the passenger experience and providing reliable connectivity in the air.
