United Club HKG Review: What It’s Like After Reopening

The United Club in Hong Kong has finally reopened its doors in October 2025 after years of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While it may not be the most luxurious lounge at the airport, it offers a comfortable space with ample seating for United Airlines passengers to relax before their flights.

Situated in Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), the lounge spans nearly 6,000 square feet. Its reopening coincides with the launch of United’s new flights to Bangkok, Thailand, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, via Hong Kong. This means travelers will fly from San Francisco or Los Angeles to Hong Kong before connecting to their final destinations.

I had the opportunity to visit the United Club twice during my trip from Hong Kong to Bangkok in October 2025. Here’s what I experienced during my time at the lounge.

Location:
The lounge is conveniently located on the floor above the airport concourse in Terminal 1. Access to this floor can be gained by taking the elevator or escalator near Gate 61. Additionally, other lounges like the American Express Centurion Lounge, the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, and a Plaza Premium Lounge are nearby, allowing for easy lounge hopping if you have access.

Design:
While the United Club in Hong Kong features the updated United Club branding, it retains a more traditional design with blue and beige armchairs. The lounge has a utilitarian layout, but it showcases various Asian-inspired art pieces and floral arrangements. The open-air space offers plenty of seating options overlooking the airport concourse, providing a spacious ambiance for travelers.

Food and Beverage Options:
The lounge offers a variety of food options including soups, sandwiches, cheeses, and Asian dishes like Shanghai fried noodles and braised beef. There’s also a coffee and tea station, soft drinks, juices, and a self-serve bar where you can request cocktails from the staff.

Amenities:
The United Club in Hong Kong features two shower rooms, phone booths, a private working area, and modern restrooms. However, during my visits, I encountered issues with the shower rooms being unavailable. The restrooms have a more modern design compared to the rest of the lounge.

Is it Worth It?
While the United Club in Hong Kong may not be the most stylish lounge, it offers functional spaces for different purposes. Whether it’s worth a visit will depend on your access to the lounge. If you have unlimited access through a credit card or elite status, it can be a convenient spot to relax, grab a bite, or get some work done before your flight.

In conclusion, the United Club in Hong Kong provides a comfortable and functional space for United Airlines travelers to unwind before their journeys. With its convenient location, variety of amenities, and decent food options, it can be a worthwhile stopover for passengers with the right access.
