Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) announced on Friday that all Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Maine have been provided with body-worn cameras and have undergone training on how to use them.
Acting ICE Director David Venturella recently announced that all federal agents would be equipped with body-worn cameras by the end of the month as part of efforts to enhance transparency and accountability.
The deployment of body-worn cameras was a key demand by congressional Democrats during a funding dispute earlier this year within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Senator Collins expressed her satisfaction in a recent post, stating that all ICE officers in Maine have been successfully equipped with body-worn cameras ahead of schedule.
Furthermore, ICE’s plans to acquire gloves capable of delivering electric shocks for its agents have raised some concerns, with the devices expected to be used for Homeland Security Investigations and Enforcement Removal Operations.
According to a notice from the DHS, ICE is working to ensure its officers have the necessary tools for carrying out their duties safely and effectively.
ICE’s recent operations in Georgia have resulted in the arrest of over 1,200 illegal immigrants, targeting individuals with criminal backgrounds such as aggravated assault and crimes against children.
In addition, the Trump administration has imposed significant fines on illegal immigrants, with over $84 billion in civil fines levied on individuals who refuse to leave the country despite deportation orders.
Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis emphasized the administration’s commitment to swiftly removing criminal illegal aliens from the United States.
