Written by Luis Cornelio via Headline USA,

Rumors are circulating that leftist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is considering a run for the presidency in the 2028 election, sparking a wave of laughter and ridicule from critics on social media.

Ocasio-Cortez’s name often comes up in discussions among Democrats about the future of the party, as noted by The Hill in a recent list of potential presidential contenders.

A leftist strategist praised the congresswoman for her ability to cut “through the BS and tell it like it is,” a sentiment that sharply contrasts with the online criticism she receives.

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz humorously responded to the news by joking, “Alex has been saying she’s running in 2028 since 2019.”

This comment alludes to the speculation in 2020 that Ocasio-Cortez could have been a presidential frontrunner if she were older.

One user shared a photoshopped image of Ocasio-Cortez crying at the southern border with a Trump-Vance sign added to the scene.

Another user shared an AI-generated image depicting Ocasio-Cortez as a comic villain in a swamp, with Vice President JD Vance’s face superimposed onto a Captain America costume.

“Think of the memes!” exclaimed the second user, predicting that an Ocasio-Cortez candidacy would lead to widespread mockery.

Podcast host and author Alec Lace poked fun at Ocasio-Cortez by referencing her unsuccessful endorsement of Rep. Jamaal Bowman, who lost in the Democratic primary.

Another Democratic strategist told The Hill that Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad” are viewed as too controversial.

“She and the ‘squad’ pushed too hard, too fast,” the Democrat remarked. “D.C. doesn’t operate that way, and neither does our party. We need to get back to the basics.”

A potential Ocasio-Cortez candidacy could parallel Vice President Kamala Harris’s unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign. Harris initially positioned herself as a progressive leader but faced challenges with controversy, wasteful spending, and underperforming staff. Four years later, Harris attempted to distance herself from leftist policies in an unsuccessful bid to appeal to a more moderate audience.
