Gen Z Has No Idea What 9/11 Is

Written by Steve Watson via Modernity News

In Lower Manhattan, twenty-five years after the tragic events of 9/11, a young man gazed at 2,977 memorial drones forming the towers in the night sky and questioned why someone would construct a “fake” building.

He referred to the Tribute in Light as the “Batman signal.”

This scenario is a result of how the media and universities have handled the Islamist aspect of the attack, instead of presenting it as a factual event.

?? Young American shocked by a 9/11 memorial gesture

2,977 drones, symbolizing each victim, illuminated the night sky over Lower Manhattan to recreate a full-size silhouette.

The man expressed confusion, stating: “We have enough… pic.twitter.com/6gkGbIbpRt

“We have plenty of buildings, dude. Why are they constructing a fake one?” questioned the individual recording the incident.

Critics argue that the avoidance of educating about the 9/11 attacks, especially concerning its Islamist nature, has left a significant portion of Generation Z with minimal awareness of the tragic events of that day.

Kimberly Ross, a columnist for the Washington Examiner, deems this indifference to be inexcusable. She emphasizes that while younger Americans cannot be faulted for being born after 2001, they can be criticized for treating the significance of the day as a mere inconvenience.

She asserts that individuals who identify as American carry a responsibility to comprehend the magnitude of the loss and the subsequent impact it had on the nation’s perspective. The events of that day, including the fatalities, the individuals who jumped from the towers, Flight 93, and Todd Beamer’s iconic phrase “let’s roll,” should not be treated as optional historical content.

The lack of awareness is not accidental. Schools in Fairfax County, Virginia, have been instructed not to associate the 9/11 attacks with Islam or Muslims and to avoid highlighting the extremists involved in the attacks.

Additionally, the “Teaching Beyond 9/11” curriculum developed by Penn GSE, implemented in New York City schools and various state education departments, allocates minimal attention to the attacks themselves, merely mentioning that the United States “accused” Osama bin Laden, while focusing extensively on topics such as Islamophobia, right-wing extremism, and avenues for solidarity.

Only a few states mandate comprehensive instruction on the subject. Recently, Texas approved educational materials linking “radical Islam” to the attacks, with some members of the board considering it controversial.

A Navy veteran expressed his frustration by stating:

The critical information that should be taught in every American school is deliberately concealed and misrepresented by our education system. They are reluctant to acknowledge that Muslims were responsible for the deaths of thousands on that day and in the subsequent years due to war. This lack of awareness is contributing to misguided voting decisions…

Others expressed their dismay regarding the lack of knowledge among individuals from Generation Z:

If they are unaware of events from 25 years ago, what historical knowledge do they possess?

— Creature of Habit2 (@CreatureHabit2) September 11, 2026

Generation Z is a disaster. They are completely out of touch and ignorant. They lack respect for historical events and fail to study their own history.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Blame can be attributed to the media and universities, but where are the parents in all of this? If my children were unaware that 9/11 occurred, I would consider it a failure on my part. It is a significant historical event…

As this ignorance unfolds in Manhattan, New York’s first Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani, disregarded the pleas of families and first responders to refrain from attending Ground Zero.

Giovanni Galante, who lost his wife Grace in the North Tower, initiated a petition that garnered over 100,000 signatures. He emphasized their disapproval of Mamdani’s presence, stating, “We do not share his beliefs, and we want to be left in peace. This 25th anniversary is a time for victims and survivors… not for a spectacle around us.”

Charles Wolf, who lost his wife, criticized the mayor by stating: “He is not serving our interests but his own.” Monica Iken urged him to “respect our mourning from 7 to 11 and allow us to grieve.” Cheri Sparacio, whose husband Tom perished on the 84th floor of the South Tower, highlighted Mamdani’s chief counsel, Ramzi Kassem, who previously represented a convicted al-Qaeda member.

City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino demanded that he refrain from visiting the hallowed ground. The Port Authority Retired Police Association, which lost 37 officers on that tragic morning, reminded him that the day was not a platform for politics or photo opportunities.

Despite the objections, he made an appearance. Cameras captured him laughing with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez while the names of the deceased were being read.

Revealing Their True Colors…

Mourner Walter Matuza, whose father was a victim and a key figure in the petition, expressed their disappointment, stating: “He showed up regardless. It troubles us.” Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani had already expressed his offense at Mamdani’s presence, highlighting that the mayor’s actions align with the ideology of the group responsible for the attacks.

Andy Ngo documented another concerning incident just blocks away from the memorial, where a trans ‘activist’ tore pages from a Bible during a 9/11 “direct action.”

Disgraceful. Absolutely disgraceful.

Meanwhile, families directly impacted by 9/11 once again demanded the release of files that have been withheld by the deep state for over 25 years. Terry Strada, after honoring her late husband Tom, questioned: “How can it be 25 years and still no justice for the role Saudi Arabia played in your murder?”

She asserted that families had provided evidence indicating that Saudi Arabia facilitated a culture of anti-American terrorism and supported the hijackers. She criticized successive administrations for prioritizing the protection of Saudi interests over supporting the families of the victims. Addressing Vice President JD Vance, she implored him to stand with the families, survivors, and all Americans.

The nephew of Lisa Marie Terry urged action, stating: “For 25 years, the Deep State has obscured the truth about the events that unfolded a quarter-century ago. President Trump, we look to you as our last hope. Release the unredacted documents that implicate Saudi Arabia while there are still surviving members of the victims’ families.”

9/11 Family Members Call on Trump Administration to Release Hidden Documents

A generation that cannot recognize an outline of the Twin Towers lacks a fundamental understanding of contemporary American society. A school system that emphasizes “Islamophobia” in the aftermath of 9/11 will fail to cultivate a well-rounded perspective.
