European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has once again raised alarm over a “critical energy situation” amidst turmoil in oil and gas markets, highlighting concerns of potential supply disruptions. President Trump’s recent optimism about the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following talks with Iran has been met with denial from Tehran, adding to the confusion surrounding backchannel negotiations.

One country is already facing a fuel shortage crisis, with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos warning of possible grounding of planes due to a jet fuel shortage linked to the Iran conflict. He mentioned that airlines have been instructed to carry fuel for round trips due to restrictions in refueling.

The ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict has disrupted commercial flights in the Gulf and Mideast regions, affecting key hubs like Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Tel Aviv. Vietnam Airlines has announced the suspension of domestic routes due to jet fuel shortages caused by the Middle East conflict.

Asia is feeling the impact of supply disruptions, with reports of fuel surcharges on international flights, diesel shortages in Thailand leading to power-saving measures, and panic-buying of gas supplies in India. The region is witnessing a surge in demand for alternative fuels like timber and cow dung cakes.

Australia is also facing fuel shortages, with hundreds of service stations running out of fuel. Energy Minister Chris Bowen highlighted the depletion of gas stocks in Victoria, Queensland, and New South Wales. The situation is worrisome, with only limited reserves of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel available.

Goldman Sachs data illustrates the growing challenges in the oil and fuel markets, with Asian refineries experiencing a slowdown in oil supply. Bowen emphasized the need for preparedness in the face of uncertainty, as fuel supplies are dwindling rapidly.

As the crisis unfolds, it’s crucial to monitor the evolving situation to mitigate potential disruptions in fuel availability. Stay informed and be prepared for possible impacts on fuel supplies in the near future.
