Authored by Paul Thacker via The Brownstone Institute,

Last week, social media buzzed with controversy over an interview featuring Dr. Peter Hotez of Texas Children’s Hospital, where he suggested that security forces from the United Nations and NATO should be deployed against “anti-vaxxers” in the United States. The interview originally aired on the YouTube channel of an international pediatric conference held in Colombia, but has since sparked debate across various platforms.

The Simposio Internacional de Actualización en Pediatría (International Symposium of Pediatric Updates) later removed the interview from YouTube, but images are still accessible on Facebook.

Despite the removal, clips of Dr. Hotez’s interview continue to circulate online, where he claims that “anti-vaxxers” have caused significant harm in the United States. In one clip shared by Paul Thacker on YouTube, Dr. Hotez suggests involving Homeland Security, the Commerce Department, and the Justice Department to address the issue.

Dr. Hotez has a history of making controversial statements regarding the Covid pandemic and has been criticized for his views on “anti-science.”

This is not the first time Dr. Hotez has advocated for police intervention against those who oppose his scientific views. In previous instances, he has called for federal agencies to intervene in addressing misinformation and disinformation related to vaccines and public health.

Despite the controversy surrounding his statements, Dr. Hotez has been recognized by publications like Time Magazine as a leading figure in global health.
