India Doubles Down On Russian Oil Purchases, As Trump Declares Both Are ‘Lost’ To ‘Deepest, Darkest China’

President Trump expressed concern on Friday over India and Russia aligning with China following meetings between Modi, Putin, and Xi Jinping. Trump remarked on social media that it appears as though India and Russia have been “lost” to China, wishing them a prosperous future together. India has since confirmed plans to increase its purchases of Russian oil despite US tariffs. Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that India will continue to buy Russian oil, stating that it is in their best interest. This decision has escalated tensions and exacerbates the ongoing trade war between India and the US.

In response to India’s defiance, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov praised India for not succumbing to US pressure to stop buying Russian products. Lavrov highlighted India’s commitment to free trade and praised their resilience in the face of tariffs imposed by the US. The strategic partnership between Russia and India remains strong, with Russia appreciating India’s steadfastness in upholding the principles of free trade.

This development comes amidst Trump’s acknowledgment that India, one of the largest economies globally, has shifted towards closer ties with China and Russia. The geopolitical landscape continues to evolve, with countries making strategic decisions to secure their national interests. The dynamics of global trade and alliances are constantly shifting, as nations navigate complex relationships to safeguard their economic prosperity.
