In a shocking turn of events, a Massachusetts judge admitted in court that she knowingly took a risk by giving a lenient sentence to a career criminal with a long history of violence, gun-related offenses, and assault convictions.
Despite being aware of the potential consequences, the judge proceeded with her decision. The criminal in question, Tyler Brown, is now back in custody after going on a shooting spree in Cambridge, critically injuring two innocent individuals.
The disturbing audio, released recently, originates from Brown’s 2020 sentencing hearing following an incident where he fired shots at Boston police officers. Prosecutors had recommended a sentence of 10 to 12 years, but the judge only sentenced him to five. Brown was released on parole in March 2025.
The newly surfaced clip reveals the judge directly addressing Brown, stating:
“I do realize I’m kind of taking a chance on you — when people stand up, police, experienced police officers, experienced probation officers, and they tell me this guy is a danger to the community.”
She acknowledged the uncertainty of the situation but expressed hope that her judgment would prove accurate and that Brown would not pose a threat to others as he had in the past.
NEW audio from the judge who released Cambridge gunman Tyler Brown
🚨 This audio is INSANE. The judge says she has been advised by experienced officers how dangerous he is but she’s ignoring them

At the time of the incident, Brown had a lengthy criminal record spanning two decades, including violent offenses against both law enforcement and civilians, as well as firearms violations, drug-related charges, assault with a deadly weapon, a stabbing incident in 2014, and an armed robbery in Michigan. Despite the unanimous warnings from law enforcement officials, the judge, identified as Janet Sanders, opted for leniency.
Recently, Brown caused chaos on Memorial Drive in Cambridge by firing shots at vehicles in traffic. A state trooper and an armed civilian intervened, stopping Brown’s rampage and injuring him before further harm could be done.
This tragic event highlights the consequences of a justice system that prioritizes the rehabilitation of violent repeat offenders over public safety. Calls have been made for judges who exhibit leniency towards such criminals to be held accountable as accessories.
The prevailing trend of lenient policies, activist judicial decisions, and revolving-door justice has transformed many American cities into high-risk areas.
This approach is not rooted in compassion but rather in negligence towards the safety of others. True justice entails keeping dangerous individuals off the streets for the duration of their sentences, without parole or leniency.
Effective leadership recognizes the importance of safeguarding law-abiding citizens. Until judges face consequences for jeopardizing public safety, such tragedies will continue to occur. The released audio unequivocally demonstrates that the judge chose to disregard the warnings.
