President Putin’s plenary session performance at the annual Valdai Club meeting in Sochi was likened to a high-speed train on cruise control. Authored by Pepe Escobar, the address and Q&A session showcased Putin’s extensive world view matured over a quarter of a century at the highest geopolitical level.

Putin highlighted the formation of a new world order and the clash of fundamental principles shaping the next historical stage. The recent BRICS summit in Kazan was referenced, emphasizing the shift towards a polyphonic and polycentric world.

Sovereignty, AI development, Eurasian security, and the Russia-China partnership were key themes discussed. Putin outlined six principles for global sustainable development, emphasizing openness, diversity, security, justice, and equality.

On Ukraine, Putin emphasized the importance of neutrality for good neighborly relations with Russia. He expressed readiness for negotiations based on facts on the battlefield and agreements made in Istanbul.

The discussion also touched on US-Russia-China relations, de-dollarization, and the potential for a new investment platform in emerging markets. Putin clarified that Russia never intended to abandon the dollar but sees opportunities for new financial tools.

The Valdai Q&A session covered a wide range of topics, with participants noting the absence of youth and women in the forum. The need for greater integration of economies and cultural values of civilizations was emphasized.

Overall, the session highlighted the importance of cooperation and mutual trust in shaping the future geopolitical landscape. The motto “Make Civilizations, Not War” encapsulates the call for peaceful coexistence and collaboration among nations.
