Warner Bros. “Lanterns” Series Is Another Whiny Woke DEI Disaster

The comic book industry in Hollywood is said to be on the decline, not due to lack of audience interest but because of the injection of woke politics by studios. This trend is evident in James Gunn’s DCU projects, where woke undertones have led to failures like the girl-boss version of Supergirl. The issue is compounded by activists who refuse to learn and studios stuck with content developed during the peak of woke culture.

One such project is the “Lanterns” series, a modern take on “Green Lantern” that focuses on replacing a white hero with a black one. The narrative revolves around John Stewart reclaiming his legacy after being robbed by Hal Jordan, with themes of white supremacy and black victimhood prevalent throughout the storyline. The show has been criticized for its heavy-handed messaging and lack of subtlety.

While studios are starting to reevaluate their DEI initiatives, the legacy of hiring less qualified minority and LGBT writers for virtue signaling purposes still lingers. This irony is not lost on the industry, as the very basis of the “Lanterns” series mirrors the exclusion of talented white male creators in Hollywood. The narrative of minorities being held back due to their skin color is challenged by the reality of diversity hires displacing deserving individuals.

Ultimately, the trend of blaming others for personal shortcomings is reflected in the media landscape, with shows like “Lanterns” serving as a platform for airing grievances rather than meaningful storytelling. The refusal to take responsibility for one’s actions perpetuates a cycle of victimhood that hampers progress and fosters division in society.
